Unbound’s newest compact wand proves that powerful pleasure can come in small, beautifully designed packages

Sex Toy Review: Unbound Dex

When I heard that sexual wellness company, Unbound, was about to launch a new product, I was thrilled. While I’m always excited when women-owned companies introduce anything new to the market, having been a fan of Unbound since the early days when they were a quarterly subscription box of sex toys—before they started designing their own products—it felt especially exciting. It’s always fun to watch the evolution of a company that’s on the right side of history.

It had also been almost a year since their last vibrator, Unbound Flick, that doubles as one hell of a badass-looking statement ring, had become available. So, naturally, as one who wears my Flick ring quite often and am well aware of the quality of Unbound’s products, I was on the edge of my seat for what might be next. To no surprise, when Unbound Dex, a compact wand vibrator, arrived at my door, I was immediately smitten.

First Impressions

One of the things I learned for Unbound early on is that they don’t skimp on packaging. From color choices for each product to overall presentation, each toy is basically served up on a silver platter, metaphorically speaking. In an industry where some sex toys are just shoved in a box and sent on their way, I’ve always appreciated this aspect about Unbound.

When I took Dex out of its box, it was ultra-smooth to the touch, so I immediately knew I was dealing with a high-quality body-safe silicone. Which, if you’re new to sex toys, is absolutely paramount. It was also beautifully designed and, as its box states, indeed compact. It was about the length of my wrist to my middle finger and, if you’ve yet to delve into wand vibrator territory, that’s very small. But I’m also someone who prefers small and powerful. I’ve tried many very large wand vibrators, toys that are the size of my forearm and heavy as all get out, so this was a wonderful change.

My Experience

As I do with every new sex toy I receive, I make sure it’s fully charged and, of course, washed before use. Just because you pluck a vibrator out of its box, brand spanking new, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be run under hot water and washed with soap. After all, these items are getting up close and personal with your nether regions, so washing before and after every time you use them should be a habit of which every sex toy user should get in the habit. Mini-lecture aside, Dex was, for lack of a better word, great.

Despite its size, Dex seriously delivers when it comes to power. With four intensities and four patterns to choose from, all linked to one button (finally!)navigating the spectrum of options was easy-peasy. I’ve never been much of a pattern gal so, for me, the sweet spot was the third highest intensity level. While the head may be a bit smaller than larger wand vibrators, it still does exactly what all other wand vibrators do: sends deep rumbling vibrations throughout the area being stimulated, but also allows for direct and precise stimulation. In other words, you can tease your entire vulva and the inside of your thighs until you can’t stand it anymore, before homing in on the clitoris when you’re ready to finish. However, as one who practices edging, I highly recommend using that technique with Dex.

Takeaway

Unbound Dex is an amazing compact wand vibrator for anyone who loves a powerful vibe. It’s beginner-friendly, waterproof, has plenty of vibration mode options, and something I really loved was that the handle doesn’t vibrate along with the head. I can’t even tell you how many hand-held vibrators vibrate everywhere, inducing numbness in the fingers—but you won’t get that with Dex. Although I would consider it an ideal sex toy for masturbation, you can, of course, use it with partners of all genders and sexualities. Its size also makes for easy travel, whether it’s the L train to Bedford or a flight to Rome, slip this baby into its dust bag and you’re ready to go.

Although Dex is currently sold out, because it’s so damn awesome, Unbound is still accepting orders for the next round of shipment that will be mid-October.
